Name the teams: Divide the groups into small teams which allow you to better coordinate the affairs. It’s also a good idea to name the teams for inculcating a feeling of closeness.
Evaluate failures and success: Define the standards against which the performance would be measured to coach youth soccer. One of the yardsticks could be an observation of whether the kids are having fun in training sessions. Check whether the kids are actually enjoying or just playing. Are the kids finding it easy to grasp the tricks of dribbling, managing the ball, and controlling it?
Give rewards: Rewards encourage the new as well as skilled players in the same way. At the same time, incentives may not necessarily be sizeable. For example a further 30 minutes rest or wrapping up the day’s job early for team performing best. And don’t reward individual feats. This is because soccer is a sport where some players will always outperform others. Substitute it with rewarding team’s hard work.
Managing poor performance: It’s important in teaching soccer to carefully manage individual’s poor performance affecting the entire team. For example, if a player is always late for the drills, do not ignore it. Reprimand him with any easy punishment to send a message to the remaining players.
Likewise, the parents who have the habit of getting in the way of team’s events must also be taken care of. Control it in time and notify everyone about it. Take charge of the team by making all important decisions. But, involvement of parents to a certain level is also important.
Lead the team: It is expected from the players to emulate you in anything you do as they see you as their ultimate guide. So keep your conduct in check. Always be nice and polite to team mates, fellow coaches, and opponents. Arrive at the field for the training sessions before the players reach. Neither should you condemn the players nor the referee while participating in a practice match.
