Shortboards offer the best movement on the waves and are therefore best for more experienced surfers who can keep their blance well. Shortboards are the same type of surfboard used by pros and are best if you plan on doing any tricks.

The particular shape of the surfboard is what will determine the exact riding style and feel of the board. For beginners an egg shaped board is recommended because it is the most stable but it is also not very manoeuvrable. The egg shaped board is not suitable for any tricks but is effective when it comes to learning how to surf.

A fish shaped board is another style of surfboard that can be a lot of fun for gliding around on smaller waves.
