- Every three months, inspect all the smaller components of the lifejackets, such as the stitching, buckles, zips D-rings and whistle.
- For lifejackets at Mailspeed Marine that include a light on them, check regularly that the light illuminates properly and that the battery is still within date. This is especially important for lights that are salt water activated, because they normally need replacing after use.
- Life jackets should be repacked correctly according to the instructions of the manufacturer. When it is not in use, store it away in an airy and dry place. Lifejackets should be partially inflated and hung on a coat hanger for out of season storage.
- Carry out maintenance on the CO2 cylinder every 3 months. Look for corrosion and the tightness of the cylinders. Corrosion is found in white powder form no the cylinder thread. Get rid of this with a nylon brush and then spray the area with a water repellent lubricant. On the parts where the rusty cylinder has come into contact with the life jacket, you will have to look out for.
