Spain was most bookies favourite at the start of the tournament but after they lost the first game to Switzerland lots of people started questioning their mentality. But all those critics were shown not to doubt this Spanish team after they beat Netherlands in the final of the World cup. It was a tactical battle and Holland did not play the game they normally play. Lots of fouls interrupted the game. Spain conceded 19 fouls and Netherlands 28. It was like chess match other than a beautiful game of football.

Holland had their chances to score when Arjen Robben was through on goal twice but Casillas saved both efforts. Then in the extra time one of the best players in the World cup Andres Iniesta scored a lovely goal which sealed the title for Spain. Then as soon as the final whistle went the celebration started as it should do. Dutch players went straight to Howard Webb (the referee of the match) to complaint about the corner he never gave before the goal. Yes it was a corner and yes it was a foul on Elia before the goal was scored and if he would have given it who knows what the outcome would have been. I thought overall the referee did pretty well not to send anyone off and keep it at 11 against 11.
