The Predators Turn Into The Prey in Shark Sport Fishing

I was eight years old when I saw the film Jaws and it wasn’t until 7 years later that the situation was to be turned around through shark sport fishing. Immediately after watching Jaws, I was afraid to get in the ocean. Several months later, I realized they wouldn’t normally come close to you in shallow waters unless you’re in a movie or incredibly unlucky. However for years, I believed that sharks were always superior to mankind. That sharks kill humans but not vice versa.

Imagine my joyfulness when I learned that the hunter can in fact become prey. I was fifteen when I learned I can go after sharks and I’ve been tracking them ever since. It’s like payback for my childhood lived in dread of the shark doing away with my limbs, letting me die slowly, but definitely.

I really enjoy shark fishing. I don’t know if it is because I know I can be superior than the shark or because it’s just exciting. But while I really like being superior to the shark, it wasn’t exciting when I saw images of how Taiwan anglers were getting rid of hoards of “biologically vulnerable” sharks. These are sharks which are a bit of weaklings, not exactly the Jaws type.

The Taiwanese shark fishing is for the fins to take care of the Chinese specialty of utilizing shark’s fin for a delicacy. To be honest, I loved shark sport fishing but I don’t do it in a commercial sense. It was an activity that would take 1 shark per week or maybe two. Destroy 1 for food then put back 1 to live and to make new sharks.

If you see the snap shots obtained by the Pew Environment Group, you genuinely wish to think twice about going shark fishing. It’s really awful, taking a look at those de-finned and bleeding sharks left to the side of the highway. Some are even chucked back into the water to die. These anglers are animals. They ought to be tossed into the ocean.

It brought to mind a picture taken in Japan of anglers killing dolphins and whales in shallow waters to supply the sushi industry. Tsk, tsk. Many Americans just adore sushi, me, included. But when I saw that photograph, I just stopped consuming sushi.

As for the professional shark fishing, the Taiwanese Government promised to create more rigid laws on this. It wasn’t mentioned how but what was definite was that de-finned sharks should no longer be tossed back into the water.
