Water Ski and Wakeboarding: Did You Tried The Two Of These Water Sport?

If you’re hunting for water sports that you can learn and try in one day, try out water ski and wakeboarding. You need to balance yourself, and have someone to drive a tow boat while you ride behind it. Luckily for us, there are so many holiday resorts that include instructional classes for you to learn in less than a day. For all who posses a natural gift for either sport, you can even learn it in half a day.

What is Water skiing?

As the name indicates, you hop onto a pair of skis and ski across the water in them. The Skis for water skiing aren’t the same as those used on snow. You’re going to be skimming the surface of the water while balancing yourself while using cables attached to the tow boat.

Maybe you’ve seen people water skiing on one ski instead of a pair. This is an advanced technique. People can maneuver quicker with only one ski.

Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is a relatively new sport, compared to other water sports. It was accidentally discovered by several surfers who tried using modified surfboards instead of skis for water skiing. Wakeboarding quickly became mainstream with equipment designs made for the sport and its fans. When a wake boarder rides, he attempts to maneuver around and over the mini-waves that the tow boat creates.

The board for wakeboarding is rectangle shaped and smaller than a surfboard. It looks more like a skateboard. The board’s bottom is rounded so that you can skim the surface of the water more effectively. There may also be fins under the board. Liquid Force Wakeboards is one good wakeboard that you should check out.

Safety Accessories

A helmet and pads for the arms and legs are needed in both water sports. Hitting the water at top speed will hurt your body. Equipment that can cover the arms and the legs are also needed.

Another individual, not counting the driver must be in the boat while you’re wakeboarding or skiing. There should be a spotter on board beside the driver. His job is to tell the driver to slow down or speed up. A slower speed may be needed for beginners. The spotter can be the observer that signals the rider if there are problems.
